ApplicationApply over a properly prepared, smooth substrate primed with a suitable Oikos acrylic primer (e.g., Crilux or Neofix) and a tinted base coat (Supercolor by Oikos) in a shade lighter than the finish color. Apply Ottocento in thin, irregular passes using a stainless-steel trowel, working the product across the surface; while still wet, pass over it again with a clean trowel to blend and create the signature two-tone velvet effect. Decorative variations (e.g., Imperiale, Damasco effects) can be achieved with a sponge or dabbing tool. For a fully washable, protected surface, a transparent protective topcoat can be applied once cured.
Care & maintenanceOnce cured (and topcoated with a protective varnish if full washability is required), the surface can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and mild, non-abrasive detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges, solvents, or aggressive cleaning agents, which can damage the metallic finish. Minor scuffs can typically be refreshed by re-passing a trowel with a small amount of matching product.

Coverage varies by material and is quoted differently by each manufacturer — some by weight per SF, some by volume per SF. On the site all of them are normalized to a single readable form (SF per 1 gallon / 1 quart) so materials can be compared directly.

Description

Ottocento is an iconic decorative wall coating created by Oikos, on the market since 1998 and recognized as the original velvet-effect finish in the decorative paints industry. Formulated with water-based acrylic resins and fine metallic pigments, it produces a soft, shimmering surface that shifts in tone and depth depending on the angle of incoming light — recreating the chatoyant, luminous quality of fine velvet fabric. Historically used to bring an air of refinement to noble residences and prestigious interiors, Ottocento today is equally at home in contemporary architecture, offering a timeless, elegant texture for feature walls, hospitality interiors, and high-end residential spaces. It is a breathable, low-odor, environmentally friendly coating suitable for interior use, and is available in both matte and lightly lustrous versions.
